Lando Norris has openly dismissed Max Verstappen’s recent suggestion that securing the F1 world title is “unrealistic” for Red Bull in the 2024 season, stating that Verstappen is simply downplaying expectations to “make himself feel better.”
Verstappen’s comments came after a few challenging races where Red Bull faced stiffer competition than usual. Despite their dominance in previous seasons, Verstappen expressed doubt about the team’s current ability to capture the world title, attributing the challenges to evolving regulations and a resurgent field of competitors.
However, Norris, who has been consistently improving with McLaren, questioned Verstappen’s outlook, suggesting it may be more psychological than performance-based. “Max knows how strong Red Bull is,” Norris remarked. “Maybe he’s trying to ease the pressure on himself or the team by saying the title is unrealistic, but everyone knows their potential.”
Norris’s comments reflect the belief of many within the paddock that Red Bull remains a force to be reckoned with. While other teams, including McLaren, Mercedes, and Ferrari, have shown stronger form this year, few doubt that Red Bull and Verstappen are still key contenders for the championship.
