Norris Explains Why He Reported Verstappen at Azerbaijan Grand Prix
Lando Norris has shed light on why he reported Max Verstappen during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, a move that sparked conversation in the Formula 1 community. Norris, who races for McLaren, said his decision to inform the stewards about Verstappen’s actions was rooted in safety concerns and the need for consistency in race officiating.
The incident occurred during a high-speed section of the Baku City Circuit, where Verstappen appeared to violate track limits or engage in an unsafe maneuver. Norris, feeling that Verstappen’s actions put other drivers at risk, made the report over team radio. In his post-race interview, Norris emphasized that while he respects Verstappen as a competitor, rules should be upheld to ensure fairness and prevent dangerous behavior on track.
“It’s not personal, it’s about making sure the same standards apply to everyone,” Norris said. “We’re all pushing hard, but there are boundaries, and I felt like in that moment, those boundaries were crossed.”
The stewards reviewed the footage but ultimately chose not to penalize Verstappen, which sparked further debate among fans and pundits. Norris, however, stood by his decision, saying, “If we don’t bring these things up, it sets a precedent that could lead to bigger issues down the line.”
Both drivers finished the Azerbaijan GP in strong positions, with Verstappen continuing his dominance in the championship standings and Norris securing valuable points for McLaren.
