Overcoming Addiction: A Journey of Faith, Sobriety, and Running

Two years ago, after battling alcoholism for 12 years, a determined individual made a life-changing decision to quit drinking. The road to sobriety wasn’t easy, but through prayer and faith, they turned to Jesus, seeking strength and guidance to overcome the struggles that came with addiction. Every time the battle seemed too tough, they prayed, and their faith carried them through.

The first year sober was challenging, as the mental and physical toll of recovery took its toll. Despite the victory over alcohol, feeling good remained a struggle. That’s when they turned to exercise, finding solace in running—a daunting task at first. Running just a mile was exhausting and required frequent stops, but persistence paid off.

Now, over a year into their running routine, they’ve transformed this activity into cherished “me time.” Running has become more than just exercise; it’s a symbol of their resilience and a tool for self-improvement. This healthy habit has not only boosted their self-esteem but has also replaced a destructive addiction with a life-affirming routine.

Their message to others is simple but powerful: “Stay healthy out there.” It serves as a reminder that no matter how tough the journey may seem, there is hope in every step forward—whether it’s through faith, exercise, or finding a new passion to embrace.
