Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies has made headlines off the court with a powerful act of generosity. The NBA star has invested $3.6 million to convert a historic estate in Memphis, Tennessee into a fully operational shelter for homeless youth. The facility, set to open later this year, will provide housing, counseling, education support, and job training for young people in need.

Morant, known for his explosive play and leadership on the court, said the decision was personal. “I’ve been blessed, and I want to use my platform to make a real difference,” he stated during a press conference. “Too many kids in our communities are struggling without stable homes or support. This shelter is for them—to give them hope, safety, and a real chance.”

The initiative, done in partnership with local nonprofits and city officials, has been praised by community leaders and fans alike. The home, once abandoned, is now being renovated to include dorm-style rooms, a learning center, and spaces for creative and recreational activities.

Morant’s investment is more than financial—he plans to stay actively involved in mentoring and supporting the youth. “This is just the beginning,” he said. “We’re building something that will last.”
