For the No. 8 trademark, Lamar Jackson and NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. have reached a settlement…

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson and former NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. have reached a settlement regarding the use of the No. 8 trademark. The dispute arose after Jackson filed a trademark application for a stylized “You 8 Yet?” logo, which prominently features the number 8 — his jersey number. However, Earnhardt Jr., who famously raced with the No. 8 during his early NASCAR career, opposed the application, citing concerns over brand confusion and the potential overlap in merchandising.

The two high-profile figures have since resolved the disagreement amicably. While the terms of the settlement have not been made public, both parties reportedly agreed to coexist in the marketplace without infringing on each other’s rights. Jackson retains the right to use his “You 8 Yet?” branding in connection with his apparel and merchandise line, while Earnhardt’s established trademarks surrounding the No. 8 remain protected.

This resolution allows both brands to move forward without legal entanglement, demonstrating a mutual respect between the sports stars. The settlement underscores the importance of intellectual property in athlete branding, especially as players expand their influence beyond the field or track into the business world.
