Penn State has extended women’s volleyball head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley’s contract through the 2030 season. Schumacher-Cawley, a former Nittany Lions player, led the team to its eighth national championship in 2024, becoming the first female head coach to win an NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship. During that season, she publicly shared her breast cancer diagnosis in October, demonstrating resilience and leadership throughout her treatment.

Athletic Director Pat Kraft praised her leadership, stating that her journey has inspired many and highlighted the program’s bright future. Schumacher-Cawley expressed her deep honor in representing Penn State, emphasizing the program’s tradition and her commitment to upholding its standards.
As a two-time All-American, Schumacher-Cawley was part of Penn State’s first national championship team in 1999. She became head coach in 2022 and has led the team to the NCAA Tournament each season, maintaining the program’s 44 consecutive appearances streak.
The contract extension reflects Penn State’s confidence in Schumacher-Cawley’s ability to continue the program’s legacy of excellence.
