Penn State Wrestling’s Carter Starocci Brings Home Big Ten Wrestler of The Year Honors….

 

Penn State’s Carter Starocci has been named the 2025 Big Ten Wrestler of the Year, following his outstanding performance at the Big Ten Championships in Evanston, Illinois. Entering the tournament as the top seed at 184 pounds, Starocci secured his third conference title by defeating Minnesota’s Max McEnelly in a thrilling sudden victory, finishing with an 8-5 decision.

Throughout the season, Starocci demonstrated exceptional dominance, maintaining an undefeated record and showcasing his prowess against top-tier Big Ten opponents. His victories included a series of technical falls and major decisions, underscoring his offensive capabilities and strategic acumen on the mat.

 

This accolade marks Starocci as the 13th Nittany Lion to receive the Big Ten Wrestler of the Year honor. His success contributed significantly to Penn State’s overall triumph, as the team clinched its third consecutive Big Ten Championship under the leadership of Coach Cael Sanderson, who was named Big Ten Coach of the Year for the eighth time.

 

Looking ahead, Starocci aims to make history by pursuing an unprecedented fifth national title at the NCAA Championships later this month in Philadelphia.
