National Champs! Wisconsin claims Frozen Four with OT win….

 

The Wisconsin Badgers secured their eighth NCAA women’s hockey national championship with a dramatic 4-3 overtime victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes on March 23, 2025. Junior forward Kirsten Simms was instrumental in the win, scoring the game-tying goal on a penalty shot with just 18 seconds remaining in regulation and netting the game-winner 2:49 into overtime.

This triumph marks Wisconsin’s fourth national title in six seasons, underscoring the program’s dominance in women’s collegiate hockey. The Badgers concluded the season with an impressive 35-1-2 record, led by national MVP Casey O’Brien.

 

The championship game was a thrilling contest between two top-seeded rivals. Wisconsin’s ability to rally from a 3-1 deficit in the final minutes of regulation showcased their resilience and determination. This victory adds to Wisconsin’s storied history in women’s hockey, solidifying their status as a powerhouse in the sport.
