Toronto Maple Leafs forward Max Domi has declined a contract extension with the team, citing disagreements over contract terms as the primary reason. Domi, who signed a one-year, $3 million deal with Toronto in 2023, was seeking a four-year extension with an average annual value of $4 million. However, the Maple Leafs were hesitant to commit to such a term, expressing concerns about the length of the contract. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman noted, “I think Toronto is nervous of term.”

Despite his desire to remain in Toronto, Domi’s agent and the Maple Leafs’ management were unable to reach a mutually agreeable deal. Toronto Sun reporter Steve Simmons suggested that Domi might need to reconsider his representation, stating, “If I were Max Domi and I wanted to stay with the Leafs, I’d find myself a new agent. The numbers being floated around for Domi don’t fit what the Leafs will be looking at.”

Domi’s departure marks the end of his tenure with the Maple Leafs, during which he recorded 47 points in 80 regular-season games and contributed four points in seven playoff appearances. As he enters free agency, Domi will be seeking a new team willing to meet his contract expectations.
