Rescue teams have found a 51-year-old man who fell overboard from the Norwegian Gem cruise ship en route to the Bahamas. The incident occurred while the ship was sailing through the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, roughly 100 miles off the coast of Florida. The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, was reported missing after the ship’s crew conducted a routine check and realized he was no longer on board.

Immediately following the report, the crew activated emergency protocols, including the deployment of rescue boats and notifying nearby vessels in the area. The U.S. Coast Guard, along with several other search-and-rescue teams, joined the effort, coordinating a large-scale search that lasted for several hours.

According to a statement from the Coast Guard, the man was found alive, clinging to a life raft. He was located after an intense search operation that involved both aerial and maritime teams. The individual was airlifted from the water and transferred to a nearby medical facility for evaluation and treatment. Early reports suggest that he was in stable condition despite being in the water for an extended period.

The Norwegian Gem, a luxury cruise ship operated by Norwegian Cruise Line, was on a routine voyage when the incident occurred. The cruise had departed from a port in Florida and was heading towards the Bahamas as part of a week-long journey.

The incident has raised concerns about safety protocols on large cruise ships, especially regarding overboard situations. While incidents like this are rare, cruise lines have extensive measures in place to prevent falls overboard, including surveillance cameras, barriers, and safety briefings for passengers. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to the man falling from the ship, while the Norwegian Gem continues its scheduled itinerary.
