Penn State Heads to Northwestern for 2025 B1G Championships…..
The Penn State Nittany Lion wrestling team traveled to Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, for the 2025 Big Ten Championships held on March 8-9. Under the leadership of head coach Cael Sanderson, Penn State dominated the tournament, securing their ninth Big Ten Championship title with a record-breaking team score of 181.5 points, surpassing their previous record of 170.5 points set in 2024.

The Nittany Lions crowned five individual champions:
Luke Lilledahl at 125 pounds
Tyler Kasak at 157 pounds
Mitchell Mesenbrink at 165 pounds
Levi Haines at 174 pounds
Carter Starocci at 184 pounds
This achievement ties the school record for most individual champions at a single Big Ten tournament, previously set in 2011 and 2024.
Carter Starocci was honored as the Big Ten Wrestler of the Year, marking the 13th time a Penn State athlete has received this accolade. Additionally, Cael Sanderson was named Big Ten Coach of the Year for the eighth time, recognizing his continued excellence in coaching.
All ten Penn State wrestlers qualified for the 2025 NCAA Championships, scheduled for March 20-22 in Philadelphia. The team’s performance at the Big Ten Championships underscores their readiness to compete at the national level.
