Breaking News: Two More Penn State Star Wrestlers Just Entered the NCAA Transfer Portal…….

Penn State’s wrestling program, under the leadership of head coach Cael Sanderson, is facing significant changes following a historic NCAA season. The Nittany Lions set a new team points record with 177, surpassing their previous high of 172.5. However, the program has now seen two more key wrestlers enter the NCAA transfer portal, raising questions about the team’s future.

Among them is David Evans, a former two-time PIAA placer from Tunkhannock. Evans had a solid college career, finishing with a 30-9 record, competing in various weight classes. He had limited competition in the current season but is expected to wrestle at 149 pounds in his final year.

Also entering the portal are Alex Facundo, a middleweight with a promising future, and Gary Steen, a lightweight with limited appearances. AJ Fricchone, a redshirt freshman, has also decided to transfer after spending just one season with Penn State.

These departures reflect the broader challenges within collegiate wrestling, including intense roster competition and scholarship limitations. Despite these changes, Penn State is set to reinforce its lineup with international talent like Masanosuke Ono, set to join the team in 2025-2026. The program’s future remains bright, but these transitions will surely shape the team moving forward.
