In a significant move ahead of the NHL trade deadline, the Toronto Maple Leafs acquired veteran forward Scott Laughton from the Philadelphia Flyers on March 7, 2025. In exchange, the Flyers received forward Nikita Grebenkin and a top-10 protected first-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft. Additionally, the Flyers sent a fourth-round pick in 2025 and a sixth-round pick in 2027 to Toronto, while retaining 50% of Laughton’s remaining contract.

Laughton, 30, had spent his entire 12-season NHL career with Philadelphia, amassing 265 points (106 goals, 159 assists) in 661 games. This season, he recorded 27 points (11 goals, 16 assists) in 60 games. Grebenkin, a 21-year-old Russian prospect, tallied nine goals and 12 assists in 39 games for the AHL’s Toronto Marlies this season.
This trade underscores the Maple Leafs’ commitment to strengthening their roster for a deep playoff run. Laughton’s experience and versatility are expected to bolster Toronto’s forward depth as they aim for postseason success.
