Penn State’s wrestling team has once again solidified its dominance in collegiate wrestling by clinching the 2025 NCAA Wrestling Championship in Philadelphia. This victory marks their 11th national title in the past 13 years, underscoring a period of unprecedented success under head coach Cael Sanderson.

The Nittany Lions amassed a record-breaking 172.5 points, surpassing the previous NCAA tournament record of 170 points set by Iowa in 1997. Their final score was 29 points more than the combined totals of second-place Cornell and third-place Michigan. Eight of Penn State’s ten entries earned All-American honors, with four wrestlers capturing individual titles. Notably, Carter Starocci and Aaron Brooks joined an elite group by each securing their fourth NCAA individual championships, making Penn State only the second school to have two four-time champions.
True freshman Tyler Kasak showcased remarkable resilience by rebounding from an initial loss to win seven consecutive matches, securing a third-place finish at 149 pounds. His performance exemplifies the depth and tenacity of Penn State’s roster.
This championship adds to Penn State’s illustrious wrestling history, reflecting a culture of excellence and continuous development. With a blend of seasoned champions and emerging talents, the Nittany Lions are poised to maintain their wrestling supremacy in the years to come.
