Kellie Harper, Former Lady Vol and Three-Time Champion, Takes on New Role in the SEC….

Kellie Harper, a former standout player for the Tennessee Lady Volunteers and three-time national champion under coach Pat Summitt, has been appointed as the head coach of the University of Missouri’s women’s basketball team. This marks a significant move within the Southeastern Conference (SEC), as Harper brings a wealth of experience both as a player and a coach.

Harper’s coaching career spans over two decades, during which she has led programs at Western Carolina, North Carolina State, Missouri State, and most recently, her alma mater, Tennessee. At Tennessee, she guided the Lady Vols to four NCAA Tournament appearances, including back-to-back Sweet 16 berths in 2022 and 2023. Her tenure there concluded after the 2023 season.

Prior to her time at Tennessee, Harper achieved notable success at Missouri State, leading the Lady Bears to two NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 run in 2019. Her overall coaching record stands at 393-260, reflecting her ability to elevate programs to competitive status.

Missouri’s women’s basketball program has faced challenges in recent years, missing the NCAA Tournament for six consecutive seasons. Harper’s appointment is seen as a strategic move to revitalize the team and enhance its competitiveness within the SEC. University officials have expressed strong confidence in her leadership and vision for the program’s future.

Harper’s deep ties to the SEC and her proven track record of developing talent are expected to bring renewed energy and success to Missouri’s women’s basketball. Her leadership is anticipated to usher in a new era for the Tigers, aiming to restore the program’s prominence in collegiate basketball.
