Adrian Autry, the head coach of the Syracuse Orange men’s basketball team, has officially announced his resignation, citing “irreconcilable differences” with the university’s administration and ongoing struggles to rebuild the program. The news comes after a turbulent season where the Orange finished with a 14-19 record, a disappointing 7-13 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), and an early exit from the ACC Tournament.

In a statement released on March 18, 2025, Autry expressed regret but emphasized that his decision was ultimately driven by a lack of support and the inability to execute the vision he had for the program. “It has been an honor to serve as the head coach of such a prestigious program,” Autry said in his statement. “However, after careful consideration, it became clear that the challenges facing this team, both on and off the court, required a different approach and level of commitment that I was not receiving from the administration.”

The resignation comes after several months of speculation regarding Autry’s future following a series of poor performances, player dissatisfaction, and mounting pressure from Syracuse fans. A recent poll conducted by local media outlets showed that a majority of fans believed the team needed a new direction, further fueling the calls for change.

Autry, who succeeded legendary coach Jim Boeheim, struggled to recapture the team’s former glory. While he was widely respected as a former assistant under Boeheim, his tenure saw fewer wins and an inability to advance to the NCAA Tournament in each of his two seasons.

Syracuse University has yet to announce an interim head coach but has confirmed that they will begin an immediate search for a permanent replacement. The resignation marks a significant turning point for the program, which is now tasked with finding a new leader to restore Syracuse basketball to its competitive roots.
