Matthew Knies admitted he was a little nervous leading up to the NHL trade deadline this past Friday. As a young player with the Toronto Maple Leafs, he understood that trade rumors are part of the business, but that didn’t make the uncertainty any easier. The 21-year-old forward has been a key piece of the Leafs’ lineup this season, bringing energy, skill, and physicality to the team.

Despite the nerves, Knies was relieved to remain with Toronto, where he continues to develop his game. He acknowledged that while trades can be out of a player’s control, he tried to stay focused on his performance on the ice. “Obviously, it’s something you think about, but at the end of the day, I just try to play my game and not worry too much,” Knies said.

With the deadline behind him, Knies can now fully concentrate on helping the Leafs in their playoff push. His strong rookie season has proven his value, and he remains a promising piece of Toronto’s future. Now, with the uncertainty gone, Knies is eager to keep growing as a player and contribute to the team’s success down the stretch.
