DONE DEAL: The Blockbuster Deal Between Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens is Done…

As of March 9, 2025, there is no official confirmation of a completed blockbuster trade between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadiens. However, recent reports suggest that the Maple Leafs have shown interest in acquiring Canadiens’ center Jake Evans. Evans, 28, is in the final year of his contract and has recorded 11 goals and 16 assists over 56 games this season. His two-way play and playoff experience make him an appealing target for contenders like Toronto.

NHL insider Frank Seravalli proposed a potential trade where Toronto would send a 2025 second-round pick (via Florida) and prospect Roni Hirvonen to Montreal in exchange for Evans. This move would bolster the Maple Leafs’ third line, aligning with General Manager Brad Treliving’s emphasis on strengthening depth ahead of the trade deadline.

While trades between these rival teams are rare, the Maple Leafs and Canadiens have engaged in deadline deals before, such as the 2018 trade involving Tomas Plekanec. As the March 10 trade deadline approaches, it remains to be seen if this proposed deal will materialize.
