In a surprising development that has sent shockwaves through the collegiate basketball community, Kim Caldwell, head coach of the University of Tennessee Lady Volunteers, has declined a substantial $13 million offer from Ohio State University, reaffirming her commitment to the Lady Vols.

Caldwell’s coaching journey has been marked by remarkable achievements. She first gained national attention by leading Glenville State to an NCAA Division II National Championship in 2022, amassing a stellar 191-24 record over seven seasons. Her success continued at Marshall University, where she guided the Thundering Herd to a 26-7 record and their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1997 during the 2023-24 season. This impressive performance earned her the 2024 Maggie Dixon NCAA Division I Rookie Coach of the Year award.

In April 2024, Caldwell took the helm of the Lady Volunteers, becoming only the fourth head coach in the program’s NCAA era. Her innovative coaching style, characterized by a high-octane offense and pressure defense, has revitalized the team. Under her leadership, the Lady Vols have embraced a fast-paced, three-point-heavy offensive strategy, setting an NCAA record with 30 three-pointers in a single game against North Carolina Central in December 2024.

Caldwell’s decision to remain with Tennessee underscores her dedication to restoring the Lady Vols to national prominence. Her commitment ensures stability and continuity for the program as it continues its pursuit of excellence in women’s college basketball.
