FRANCHISE: Greg Gard Signs 3-Year Contract Extension with Wisconsin Badgers Basketball…..
As of April 2024, University of Wisconsin men’s basketball head coach Greg Gard has agreed to a contract extension through May 31, 2029. This extension, approved by the UW Athletic Board, reflects the university’s confidence in Gard’s leadership and the program’s direction.

Gard, who assumed the head coaching role in 2015, has led the Badgers to notable successes, including two Big Ten regular-season championships and two Big Ten Coach of the Year honors in 2020 and 2022. Under his guidance, the team has made multiple NCAA Tournament appearances, though they have not advanced beyond the second round since 2017.
In the 2023-24 season, Wisconsin finished with a 22-14 record, showcasing resilience by advancing to the Big Ten Tournament Championship game. However, their postseason concluded with a first-round NCAA Tournament upset against 12th-seeded James Madison.
Looking ahead to the 2024-25 season, Gard faces the challenge of integrating new talent, as the team sees significant roster changes due to graduations and transfers. Despite these hurdles, the contract extension signifies the university’s trust in Gard’s ability to maintain and elevate the program’s competitive stature in collegiate basketball.
