In a significant boost to their women’s basketball program, the Tennessee Lady Volunteers have secured a commitment from Aaliyah Chavez, the nation’s top prospect in the 2025 recruiting class. Chavez, a 5-foot-10 guard from Monterey High School in Lubbock, Texas, is celebrated for her exceptional scoring ability, court vision, and leadership on the court.

During her junior year, Chavez led Monterey to a 31-6 record, averaging an impressive 37.8 points, 10.1 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 3.5 steals per game. Her outstanding performance earned her the title of 2023-24 Texas MaxPreps High School Girls Basketball Player of the Year.

Chavez’s commitment to Tennessee is a testament to the program’s resurgence under head coach Kim Caldwell. Despite receiving offers from prominent programs such as LSU, Texas, South Carolina, and UCLA, Chavez was drawn to Tennessee’s rich basketball tradition and Caldwell’s dynamic coaching style.

“This decision was about finding the right fit for me,” Chavez stated. “Coach Caldwell’s energy and vision for the Lady Vols really stood out. I’m excited to be part of such a historic program and help bring championships back to Knoxville.”

Chavez’s commitment not only elevates Tennessee’s recruiting class but also signals a bright future for the Lady Vols as they aim to reestablish themselves as a dominant force in women’s college basketball.
