NASCAR issues stiff penalties to Chase Briscoe’s team for violation found after Daytona 500

NASCAR has imposed significant penalties on driver Chase Briscoe and his team, Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR), following the Daytona 500. The infractions involved unauthorized modifications to the spoiler of the No. 19 Toyota, a single-source part that cannot be altered.

As a result of these violations, Briscoe has been penalized 100 driver points and 10 playoff points, causing his standings to drop from 10th to 39th. JGR faces a $100,000 fine, a loss of 100 owner points, and 10 playoff points. Additionally, crew chief James Small has been suspended for four races. citeturn0news9

JGR has announced plans to appeal the penalties, attributing the issue to assembly process errors. The team explained that bolts used to attach the spoiler base to the deck lid caused the pre-drilled holes to wear due to part interferences. citeturn0news9

These penalties underscore NASCAR’s commitment to maintaining fair competition and ensuring that all teams adhere to the established technical standards. The outcome of JGR’s appeal will be closely watched, as it could set a precedent for how similar infractions are handled in the future.
