Why NASCAR’s Number 1 Major Driver was disqualified from Talladega Superspeedway….. Results have been released showing that…..
Kevin Harvick’s No. 4 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford was disqualified after finishing second in the NASCAR Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway on October 1, 2023. The disqualification occurred because the car failed post-race inspection due to unsecured windshield fasteners, violating NASCAR’s rules that mandate all fasteners remain secure throughout the event.
Specifically, NASCAR cited violations of Sections 14.5.6.2.F and 14.1.E and P of the NASCAR Rule Book. Section 14.5.6.2.F states that “windshield fasteners must remain secure for the entire Event,” while Sections 14.1.E and P pertain to the overall assembly of the vehicle and the requirement that all fasteners be securely fastened at all times during an event.
Crew chief Rodney Childers explained that the car had been “buffering in the draft all day,” leading to some windshield bolts vibrating loose or falling out. He noted that the team had applied silicone to the threads, but the bolts still came loose. Despite this explanation, Stewart-Haas Racing announced they would not appeal the disqualification.
NASCAR officials emphasized the importance of this rule for both safety and competitive fairness, noting that such fasteners are designed to remain secure under normal racing conditi
ons.
