RCR expands with third NASCAR Cup Series team……..
Richard Childress Racing (RCR) has announced plans to expand its NASCAR Cup Series operations by introducing a third car for select races in the 2025 season. This strategic move aims to enhance the team’s competitive edge and provide additional opportunities for emerging talent.
Andy Street, a seasoned member of RCR since 2003, has been promoted to crew chief for this new entry. Street previously led the No. 21 Xfinity Series car over the past three seasons, demonstrating his capability to guide teams to success. In his new role, he will gain valuable experience with the NextGen car, contributing to RCR’s Cup Series program while continuing to support the Xfinity Series and alliance partners.
Chad Haney will assume the position of crew chief for the No. 21 Xfinity Series car, with Austin Hill slated as the driver for the 2025 season. Haney’s recent experience as head mechanic liaison between RCR and its alliances positions him well for this role, where he is expected to work effectively with the team to build a strong program.
The third Cup Series car will feature multiple drivers throughout the season, though specific names have not yet been disclosed. This approach allows RCR to evaluate and develop various talents, potentially shaping the future lineup of the team.
Richard Childress, Chairman and CEO of RCR, expressed confidence in these leadership changes, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to internal growth and the development of a deeper talent pool. By promoting from within, RCR aims to strengthen its competitive stance in the NASCAR Cup Series and build for the future.
This expansion reflects a broader trend in NASCAR, with teams like RFK Racing also adding entries for the upcoming season, signaling a dynamic shift in team strategies and competition levels.
