Just In: Zac Taylor Cincinnati Bengals coach just signed a new player WR Cole Burgess…..
Cole Burgess, a standout wide receiver from Division III SUNY Cortland, has joined the Cincinnati Bengals’ practice squad under head coach Zac Taylor. After going undrafted in 2024, Burgess signed a three-year contract with the Bengals, including a $15,000 signing bonus and an average annual salary of $948,333.
During his collegiate career, Burgess was instrumental in leading SUNY Cortland to its first national championship in 2023. He earned four first-team All-Empire 8 Conference selections and, in his senior year, led the conference with 87 receptions for 1,375 yards and 16 touchdowns. His performance in the national championship game was particularly notable, catching the go-ahead touchdown with under two minutes remaining.
Burgess’s versatility extends beyond receiving; he was a significant threat in the return game, accumulating 1,647 yards and three touchdowns on 66 kickoff returns during his college tenure. His athleticism and playmaking abilities have been evident throughout his career, making him a valuable addition to the Bengals’ roster.
Despite being waived during the final roster cuts, Burgess’s potential was recognized, leading to his signing to the practice squad on August 28, 2024. As the Bengals progress through the season, Burgess remains a promising talent to watch, with the potential to make significant contributions to the team’s offensive and special teams units.
